Damghan is the oldest and most ancient city in Iran. Its old names are Deh Moghan and Sad Darvazeh. Damghan people speak Farsi and Damghani dialect.
This city was completely surrounded by the city’s wall, it is said that the stoutness of wall was so high that two phaeton could passed each other along the wall. The remains of that wall are already visible; it is known as the Baro Wall. Damghan has two types of climate. From the south it’s connected to the Loot Desert and north to the southern slopes of the Alborz Mountains. That’s why most fruit species grow in this city.
The weather in Damghan city, due to severe north winds and rain caused by the winds of Gorgan and Mazandaran areas,has cold winters and mild summers. In the warm seasons, the city is considered to be one of the coolest city in Iran.
The most important agricultural product of Damghan is pistachio which is considered to be the best pistachio in Iran and the world. Damghan pistachios are exported worldwide.
The most important resort of this city is Cheshmeh Ali. Tepe Hissar is one of the remains of the ancient times and is about 7,000 years old and has undergone archaeological excavations, which indicate that the city was destroyed by the earthquake over its inhabitants.
Recent archaeological excavations show that seven thousand years ago, steel was produced in this area. For the first time in 1933, Professor Smith performed his archaeological excavations on Tepe Hissar and reached valuable proof of civilization in this area.
