Fuman is one of the cities of Gilan Province and the capital city of Fuman County. This city is located in the Gilan plain area and is surrounded by gardens and rice fields. Due to the many sculptures it contains, the city also known as sculpture towns. Also, the presence of so many plane trees in the streets of the city has provided a beautiful view to the city. Fuman attracts a lot of tourists every year with its historical background and beautiful scenery.
Fuman is located 27 km from Rasht, 356 km from Tehran and 5 km from the city of Sowme’eh Sara (the nearest town). This city has been on the way of travelers who are going to Masuleh or RudKhan Castle. The city of Fuman currently has an area of 29 square kilometers and is 3 meters above sea level.
The city is one of the oldest and primary cities in Gilan, which the date of its genesis is unclear. Historical commentary indicates that the city existed in the pre-Islamic period, the Sassanid period (224-652 AD) and even before that. The area has been well-known since ancient times and was one of the centers of two tribes of Gilak and Talesh. The name Fuman came from the time when the ruling dynasty of Gilanshah and Dabuyahyan came to power, from the late Sassanid period onwards.
In terms of the tourism industry, as well as ecotourism, the city of Fuman has a special place in Iran and even in the world and has become one of the tourist hubs with its unique landscapes. In a general division of tourist attractions, this city can be divided into five sections: natural, historical, religious, cultural, social and economic. Masuleh, Rudkhan Castle, and Fuman park can be mentioned as Fuman main tourist attractions.
