Taft is a city located in the central part of country, located in Yazd province of Iran. This town is situated in the southwest of Yazd city and has a cool climate compared to other cities of the province due to its location on the slopes of Shir Kuh.
The town is generally composed of two parts: the northern and southern parts, which are tropical and chilly respectively. Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Bastani Parizi, a contemporary historian and famous writer of history, whose most recent writings was about the history of Iran’s desert, claimed that the name of Taft city has been taken from its desert warmth.
Taft is a summer resort with a long history. Regarding the location of the region and historical discoveries, it is likely that the general Taft area was there since the time of Islam. This site has more than 1200 monuments.
The city of Taft has an area of over 6,000 square kilometers with a population of 45,357. Taft is located at the highest point of the province and can be considered as the roof of the province.
Considering the features of the region, majority of Taft’s population is farmer and gardener. Among the agricultural products of this region are wheat, grain, legume, grapefruit, peach, apricot , Tomatoes, walnuts and pomegranate, which is the most abundant product of Taft and due to its juiciness and high maintenance capacity, it is exported to other parts of the country and abroad.
The people of this city, in addition to their cultivation, are also engaged in animal husbandry.
