Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport is located 30 km of Tehran, in the city of Ray, between Tehran-Qom highway and a 14,000-hectare site. This airport was designed as a superseded to the Mehrabad International Airport, which is now located inside the texture of Tehran.
Imam Airport is operated by the State Airports Company of country, and it is the center of activity of the airline companies of Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahan, Sky, Qeshm, Caspian, Taban and Zagros.
Until August 2014, Imam Khomeini Airport has been hosted more than 40 Airlines, which connected Tehran with more than 700 weekly flights to cities in more than 30 countries.
First phase of Imam Khomeini Airport has an active passenger terminal with a capacity of 5.6 million passengers and moving 120 thousand tons per year. And the second phase of this airport is under construction.
In August, 2014, the connecting bridge between Phase 1 and 2 was utilized with the change of usage as the temporary terminal for pilgrimages.
In 2016, 53,359 boarding and taking off were arranged and 7,821,369 kg were done and 148,020, 415 passengers were flown.
